What is “Matsuya?”

The “Kimkaru-don” that we will be introducing this time is a menu item offered at the Japanese restaurant “Matsuya”.”Matsuya” is a popular gyudon restaurant along with “Yoshinoya” and “Sukiya”.

At Matsuya, if you order Beef Bowl’ or Kimkaru-don, you will receive miso soup. (Fees apply at some stores. Not included  to go.)

This is a photo of beef bowl. The meat is tender, flavorful and very delicious. However, what I would like to introduce today is “Kimkardon”!

The taste is…

“Kimukarudon” is an abbreviation for “Kimchi Kalbi Beef Bowl”. Place the grilled short ribs on top of the rice and drizzle with the sweet and spicy sauce. Top with kimchi and seaweed and it’s done!

What do you think, this looks delicious!

The sauce is soy sauce-based and has a sweet and spicy taste, similar to the sauce used for Japanese yakiniku. This also goes perfectly with rice!In addition, the spicy kimchi is an exquisite accent, and you can eat it deliciously until the last grain of rice.

For people who don’t like spicy food or children, we recommend ordering the “Kimchi Separate Serving”, but I think it’s probably hard to convey.
Although it is not a bowl, we recommend ordering the “beef short ribs set meal”!

Once you try it, you’ll definitely be hooked! This is Nami’s recommended dish that you must try when you come to Japan!

Where can I eat it?

Kimkardon can be eaten at Matsuya stores all over Japan.(Click here for Matsuya store)

Many Matsuya restaurants use a meal ticket system, where you pay first and then take a seat. As soon as I enter the store, I buy what I want to eat because I have an opportunity like this.

Use the touch panel to select what you want to eat and pay.

By the way, the price of kimkardon is…

small(komori):560yen($3.74)
Average(namimori):590yen($3.94)
plateful(oomori):730yen($4.88)
Special(tokumori):870yen($5.81)

* As of October 2023.

A ticket will appear.Take a seat and wait for your food to be prepared.

When the food is ready, a number will be displayed on the monitor, so go to the counter and pick it up.

Tea and water are provided free of charge. At many Matsuya stores, you have to pick it up yourself.

When you have finished eating, please return your tableware to the return slot. You won’t be scolded if you leave it there, but the rule is that you have to return it.

* Some stores have different purchasing methods and teas than the above.

When you come to Japan, be sure to try Matsuya’s “Kimkaru-don” in Japan!
